About WMA

Women Marines AssociationThe Women Marines Association is the only veterans association exclusively for and about women Marines. A non-profit 501(c)3 veteran organization, the organization is comprised of women who have served or are serving honorably in the United States Marine Corps regular or reserve components.

The Women Marines Association was established in Denver, CO, in 1960 to ensure our history as Marines would continue to be told and passed on to each new generation of Marines. Chapters and members throughout the world work on community programs and support our military personnel, our veterans and their communities. They reach across all areas where there is a need.

Since 1918, American women have answered their country’s call to serve. We have served proudly with distinction and honor; each generation evolving but always retaining our proud traditions.

The bond and camaraderie shared by those who have gone through the training to become a UNITED STATES MARINE are ever prevalent among all women Marines — They know no generational boundaries.  We are all MARINES.

    Hello,

My great-aunt Capt. Mary Mitchell was in the first graduating class of USMCWR in 1943. She has past but I have several news clippings, articles, photos of her. She was quite a unique woman and wanted to know if your organization would be interested in them. I am sure she would want me to donate them to your organization.

Not only was in the first graduating class in 1943, and at 23, she was the youngest officer in the Marine Corps at the time.

This collection includes misc. articles, USMCWR 1943 newsletter called the “Shore Salt” Jan 1945 First Naval District Woman’s Reserve News Monthly with photos inside with a couple of them of her.

Please let me know if interested.
